What is Invoke-through Compensation?
Make money on every invocation made through your application!
StrikeIron’s Web Services Commerce Platform has the ability to provide you
with unique custom WSDL URL addresses to use within your application. These
custom WSDLs indicate to StrikeIron in real-time which application is invoking a
given Web service so that usage can be tracked, and also provide revenue to you
based on that usage.
Every time a non-trial transaction occurs through a commercial Web service
available within the StrikeIron Marketplace, the data provider for that Web service
gets paid, StrikeIron gets a percentage, and the creator of the application that
calls that Web service gets a percentage.
StrikeIron’s Web Services Commerce Platform translates the custom WSDL
address from which the transaction was initiated into the actual WSDL address of
the Web service before the invocation occurs. This is seamless to the calling
application and the end-user. It is strictly an internal translation that occurs
within StrikeIron’s data center, which enables usage tracking on behalf of an
ISV’s application.
For example, if 500 trial invocations and 25,000 paid invocations occur
through a given Web service from your application, you will be paid for those
25,000 transactions on a quarterly basis (payouts are only on collected money).
StrikeIron will provide a report for you based on the quarterly transactions.
Of course, utilizing custom WSDLs and being compensated for usage is purely
optional. Clearly business models exist where the ISV would not want to be
compensated for usage within the ISV’s application, in which case the generic
StrikeIron WSDL URL addresses can be used. The GetMarketplaceServices operation
can be used simply to get the most current directory of services available.
