MASHUP MADNESS!!! NCAA Hoops Contest Winners!

Hot Hoops, Cool Mashups, Hot Prizes

Congratulations to the Winners! The mashups submitted were extraordinary in their usage of The Sports Network NCAA Basketball API to create useful applications.

Grand Prize Winner:

Robbie Allen - Statsheet.com
Rankings in Motion
Services Used: TSN NCAA Web Service and STATS Inc web service
Description: Ever wondered how fluid the AP Top 25 is over the course of the season? Now you can see the poll in motion, starting from the preseason to the most recent poll.

MashUp Winner

David Schmierer - EditGrid
NCAA Game Summary
Services Used: TSN NCAA Web Service
Description: Mashup uses EditGrid’s online spreadsheet application to load data from TSN Men’s College Basketball Web service provided by StrikeIron. Games are loaded daily and can be selected from a menu bar option (“Today’s Games”). For each game users can select to load:
i. Game Summary that includes home and away team stats and game summary.
ii. Home Team In-Depth or Away Team In-Depth which includes teams stats, starting lineup and injuries.
iii. Game lines for each game from all bookmakers

Social Application Winner

Steve Chan – AppTsunami
Bracket Madness for Facebook
Services Used:
TSN NCAA Web Service
Description: Bracket Madness is a game you play with your friends while following the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. You get points for each winner your pick and see how well you do against your friends.
The application runs as a native application both on FAcebook and the hi5 social network with native look- and-feel. Technically the application is developed in single-source on both social networks by using open source tsunami framework (http://singleforge.net/projects/tsunamiframework/) to support both platforms. Achieving single-source (including StrikeIron API) allows the developer to minimize the engineering, operation and maintenance costs while reaching a wider audience. The application involves complex AJAZ user interaction for the user to enter bracket selections. The application calls multiple StrikeIron SOAP API’s to retrieve multiple data rows and performs one-the-fly “relational join” to integrate the data in a single easy-to-read webpage. The application retrieves up-to-date information from StrikeIron, thus providing the user incentive to return frequently.

Honorable Mentions:

Jon Feller and Artem Papkov – IBM (not submitted as part of contest, but well worth mentioning!)
Lotus Mashup Demo (YouTube Demo)
Services Used: TSN NCAA Web Service
Description: This demo utilizes the Lotus Mashups environment to combine data from StrikeIron's Men's College Basketball Web Service with data from Yahoo! Maps Service, Yahoo! Local Service, and AccuWeather. By combining these data sources into a mashup application, a fan of a college basketball team easily find restaurants and weather at the basketball arena site.

Robbie Allen - Stats Sheet

I'm not aware of any other site on the web that has all of the conference tourney info in a single spot nicely collated with constantly updated brackets.

GeoCommunications - Fantasy NCAA Tournament
